Nevada Man Convicted of Attempted Murder After Shooting Fiancée and Assaulting Landlord

A 33-year-old man from Nevada, who shot his fiancée in the face and brutally assaulted his landlord, is now facing significant prison time.

He was just convicted of multiple felony charges.

A Washoe County jury found Wacey John Chabot guilty of several serious crimes on Friday, including attempted murder, domestic battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm, and battery with a deadly weapon.

This information was released by the county district attorney’s office.

In January 2023, officers from the Sparks Police Department responded to a 911 call from one of the victims at a residence on Wolverine Way.

The caller reported that he had been injured by Chabot, who had also shot his fiancée.

When the police arrived, they found Chabot outside a travel trailer located on the property.

Ignoring repeated commands from the police to stop, Chabot went inside the trailer briefly before coming out again.

Despite further commands to stop and get on the ground, Chabot continued to ignore the officers until he was eventually subdued with a taser.

Once Chabot was detained, deputies entered the trailer and found his 36-year-old fiancée, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the face.

She also had several facial fractures, including injuries to her nasal cavity and jaw.

Inside, they also found the landlord, a 45-year-old man, who had been struck in the head with a firearm by Chabot, resulting in a severe laceration that required stitches.

During the trial, prosecutors revealed that Chabot had intentionally lured both victims back to the property with the intent to kill them.

Armed with a gun, Chabot followed the victims into the trailer, where he reportedly declared, "All of us are going to die tonight."

He then shot his fiancée and struck the landlord over the head with the gun.

The prosecution argued that Chabot intended to kill both victims and himself, but the landlord managed to wrestle the gun away and call for help.

Remarkably, Chabot’s fiancée survived her injuries.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the district attorney’s office has not provided additional information.

Chabot is scheduled to be sentenced on August 19, 2024, before Sedgwick County Judge Scott Freeman.

He faces a maximum sentence of 60 years in a state correctional facility.
