Ohio Father Charged with Murder After Son's Fatal Shooting

A 63-year-old father from Ohio dialed 911, reporting that his adult son had attacked him with a baseball bat.

When police arrived, they found Donald Varga, crying outside his home, while his son, Corey, lay inside with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Donald Varga is currently being held on $1 million bail.

He is accused of fatally shooting his 29-year-old son during what authorities describe as a domestic violence incident.

On the night it happened, Varga called 911 and said his son was attacking him with a baseball bat.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a distraught Donald Varga outside his residence in the Cleveland area.

Inside, Corey Varga was found with a critical gunshot wound to his chest.

Despite first responders' efforts to save him, Corey was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Donald Varga now faces charges of murder and a misdemeanor count of domestic violence.

He pleaded not guilty during his court appearance on Friday and was subsequently ordered to be held on $1 million bail.

As of Tuesday, Varga remained in custody.

Inside Edition Digital has sought comments from Varga's defense counsel.

In court, Denise Varga, the victim’s mother and Donald Varga’s wife, pleaded for a lower bail, arguing that her husband posed no threat to the community and was not a flight risk.

"I believe this is a very isolated family incident and that the accused is not a risk of endangering others outside and that he also does not pose a flight risk even though these charges are very serious," she stated.

The shooting is still under investigation, with autopsy results pending. The prosecutor has announced intentions to present the case to a grand jury.
