Fatal Obsession: The Tragic Story of Tim Smith, Chelsie Cline And a Car Wash Massacre

We usually view comments on social media as "not that serious."

However, one man took his comments very seriously and wasn’t willing to let people who disagreed with him off easy.

Background

25-year-old Chelsie Cline had a short relationship with 28-year-old Tim Smith.

For unknown reasons, Chelsie decided that breaking up with Tim was the best choice for her future.

However, Tim did not accept the breakup.

As Chelsie tried to move on with her life as a single woman, Tim relentlessly pursued her.

The most colorful of flowers were a constant gift to her.

During Christmas, Chelsie was always sure of an unexpected gift from Tim.

He would give her scratch-off tickets whenever he saw her and even left cans of cold beer on top of her car.

Tim Smith

Despite Tim’s best efforts to win Chelsie’s attention, it never worked.

She was already in love with another man, 27-year-old William Porterfield.

It is unknown how long the two lovebirds had been communicating, but it was noted that William was a married man with a pregnant wife.

Allegedly, his wife admitted that they were having serious marital problems that affected their relationship.

She was also suspicious that William was seeing other women in his free time, but she didn’t have the heart to investigate it further.

Chelsie Cline

Tim Smith eventually found out about Chelsie’s new love interest.

He grew increasingly annoyed when she continued to ignore him and live her life separately.

Chelsie’s half-sister, Sierra Kolarik, revealed that Tim was extremely obsessive, and had a strong interest in firearms.

The Murder

His obsessive nature led him to constantly monitor Chelsie’s new Facebook posts.

On January 15, 2018, Chelsie made a post that read:

Chelsie: “Guys nowadays don’t want girlfriends, just want a girl who acts like a girlfriend and is loyal to them while they mess with other females.”

Tim: “Says you.”

In another post, she shared a sarcastic statement joking, “After this week, I rlly (sic) need to get taken out … on a date or by a sniper either one is fine w me at this point.”

Tim quickly commented saying “I could do both.”

Six days after her Facebook posts, Chelsie went to work and did her normal shift at the local deli where she worked.

Her co-workers said she was excited and in a great mood that day, but unfortunately, her happiness turned into sadness just a few minutes later.

The murder

After her shift, she reportedly met her lover, William, and they drove to a self-serve car wash called Ed’s Car Wash in a silver Dodge Stratus.

Chelsie’s half-brother, Seth (21), Courtney Snyder (23), and another unidentified woman, arrived minutes later in a green pickup truck.

The five of them had no idea that Tim Smith was parked by the car wash, waiting for his target.

He was waiting with his loaded AR-15.

As William and Chelsie got out of the vehicle, they were shot at close range.

Then Tim approached Seth, Courtney, and the friend who were still sitting in the truck, trying to escape as quickly as possible.

Even though they tried their best to escape to safety, there was barely any time to understand what was happening.

Tim also shot them at close range, but the unidentified friend managed to escape by hiding and slipping out of the car door.

After killing four innocent people, Tim cowardly turned the gun on himself to avoid facing the police.

When authorities arrived, they found Tim seemingly ready for a fight.

He was wearing heavy protective body armor and had several guns with him.

Despite his armor, the gunshot wound he inflicted on himself to the head led to his death a few hours later at the hospital.

Meanwhile, all four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Chelsie’s cousin said, “She didn’t seem afraid of him at all. I just don’t understand what happened.”
