Johnathon Willette |
Devyn Michaels was initially arrested on October 2022 for child abuse, after her 8-year-old child was found with bruises.
The case however, was not related to the murder charges.
She was sentenced to a year of probation just days before police began interviewing her in connection with Willette’s murder.
During her sentencing on the child abuse charge, Michaels claimed to have undergone counseling, therapy, and drug tests.
She insisted she was not an abusive person.
Her public defender also argued that she posed a low risk of reoffending.
He claimed that there was no indication she would harm her child again.
Devyn Michaels told investigators that she and Willette were not living together at the time of the murder.
However, they were planning to move in together for their children's sake.
Devyn Michaels |
According to court documents, after killing and decapitating Willette, Michaels allegedly took his head from the crime scene in Henderson.
She drove it to her home in Las Vegas, where she disposed of it in a trash bin.
Prosecutors believe the head was collected by a garbage service, and it was never recovered.
It is reported that Devyn Michaels had a motive related to financial gain, possibly involving insurance money.
There were also signs of a troubled relationship between Michaels and Willette, who shared two children.
This may have contributed to the tragic events.
Their relationship was filled with allegations of abuse from Devyn Michaels towards Willette.
Additionally, Michaels was married to Willette's son, which added complexity to their relationship.
Reports indicate that Willette attempted to force Michaels into a sexual act, which she claimed was a catalyst for her actions
Michaels is scheduled for sentencing on October 31, where her fate will be determined.
In another case, an 18-year-old has been arrested after she tried to steal a car.
