Investigators have confirmed that skeletal remains discovered in a wooded area of Missouri City, Texas, belong to Karen Miles.
She was a 61-year-old woman who went missing about three weeks earlier.
Missouri City Police revealed on Friday that the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner identified Miles through dental records.
They also determined her cause of death to be a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.
The police have since shifted to a homicide investigation, charging Davante Clark with aggravated robbery and capital murder.

Investigators identified Clark as the person seen driving Miles' stolen vehicle after her last known contact with anyone.
Miles' sister, Patricia Evans, expressed her heartbreak to newsmen.
She said, "I never would have imagined something like this happening to someone as beautiful as Karen.
My only hope is that she didn't suffer when he shot her."
According to court documents, the tragic incident occurred in the parking lot of Miles' senior living complex, located in the 10000 block of the South Sam Houston Parkway.
Clark reportedly approached her with a gun while she was getting into her Ford Explorer.
A witness also saw Clark entering the vehicle.
Miles was last heard from on the night of August 21, around 10:45 p.m., and was believed to be at her apartment.
Her family reported her missing on August 28 after they couldn’t reach her when she failed to show up for work the following morning.
Police received information during their investigation that led them to search a field in the 16000 block of Blue Ridge Drive, where they found her remains on Monday.
On the same day, Pearland police arrested 29-year-old Davante Clark, who was driving Miles' vehicle with a stolen Arkansas license plate.
Initially, Clark was only charged with the stolen vehicle and booked into the Brazoria County jail, where he remains.
There is no set date for his transfer to Harris County.
