Missing Philadelphia Woman Found Buried in Shallow Grave: Boyfriend a Suspect

Authorities in Pennsylvania are investigating after the body of a missing woman was discovered in a shallow grave.

According to a statement from the Philadelphia Police Department, 29-year-old Melody Rivera was last seen on October 31.

Rivera's family members told news outlets that they searched tirelessly for her in the days leading up to the grim discovery.

“We went out every single day, spending hours trying to find my sister,” Martha Lee Fred shared with WTXF. “She didn’t deserve this. She shouldn’t have ended up buried in a park.”

Rivera’s remains were found in a shallow grave near Champions Park Playground on November 7, as confirmed by the police to WCAU.

Rivera leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter, her family told WTXF. “My granddaughter is devastated, Rivera’s mother, Maritza Garcia, told WPVI.

“I’ve never felt such heartbreak in my life. They took my baby from me.”

Authorities confirmed to the news outlet that Rivera’s boyfriend, 29-year-old Geovanni Otero, is currently a person of interest.

They are actively searching for him.

“I swear on my soul, I won’t rest until justice is served for my sister,” Fred stated to WTXF.

So far, officials have not released any information regarding Rivera's cause of death.
