Miata Borders: Lesbian Substitute Teacher in Mississippi Fired After Controversial TikTok Sparks Outrage
A substitute teacher in Mississippi, Miata Borders, was fired on October 17, 2025, after posting a TikTok video that quickly went viral and caused outrage online.
Borders, a 24-year-old from Lake Cormorant, lost her position at Lake Cormorant High School after sharing clips from her first day at work that many viewers found inappropriate.
In the video, Borders — who wore a large diamond crucifix necklace — filmed a group of students practicing for the school band as she walked down a hallway.
The footage briefly focused on a student wearing red Crocs and holding pom-poms.
That’s when Borders made the comment, “Yeah, they got it going on in this joint. Damn shorty, jeesh. Man, I get up after these school kids tryna take me down.”
The remarks were widely interpreted as flirtatious and quickly drew criticism, as reported by Daily Mail.
One shocked viewer commented, “She’s a teacher but getting tempted off kids? Why are you even looking at students that way?”
Another wrote, “Did you just look at one of these young ladies and say ‘damn shorty’? Get out of that school!”
Within hours, the clip spread across social media, amassing over one million views and prompting calls for her removal.
Following the backlash, DeSoto County Schools confirmed to local news outlets that Borders had been dismissed from her position, as per Daily Mail.
“District officials informed Kelly Services today that the person is no longer allowed to be a substitute teacher for DeSoto County Schools,” The district said in a statement.
Kelly Services, which provides substitute teachers to schools in the area, was also notified immediately about her removal.

Aside from the comments which some people perceived as flirtatious, Borders’ overall behavior in that same TikTok video also sparked concern among viewers.
Borders was filmed herself packing a bag of Skittles and a bottle of Gatorade for lunch before walking into her classroom, smiling and saying, “Today was really a breeze.”
She added,
“My kids didn’t have to do too much. To be honest, I let ’em do whatever they wanna do. Yes, I am that type of teacher.”
The clip showed her sitting at her desk with her feet propped up and her name scribbled across the whiteboard in messy handwriting.
She later filmed a “fit check” outside and laughed about being mistaken for a student.
These videos, meant to show her personality, only reinforced criticism that she was carefree and dismissive about her classroom duties.
One user wrote, “Failing the next generation — why are you there, for content? Did anyone even check her credentials?”
The following day, Borders uploaded another video defending her actions, claiming her words were misunderstood.
“It’s honestly so sad how sick the world is that you guys automatically mischaracterize me fully without further context,” she said.
Borders insisted that the term “shorty” was a slang that didn’t carry the same meaning others assumed.
“They are shortys, they are young — that absolutely means nothing with flirting. My terminology is much different from you guys,” she explained.
However, that video only stirred more anger among the public.
On October 23, 2025, Borders addressed the controversy again in a longer TikTok, apologizing but maintaining that she never meant harm.
“This was my very first time subbing ever. I had absolutely no idea that I couldn’t record students or I definitely wouldn’t have done it,” she said.
“I do apologize, but I had no idea it was prohibited. What I meant by shorty was that those kids were smaller than me, younger than me.”
Despite her apology, the video did little to change public opinion. Many viewers felt that Borders showed a lack of professionalism and awareness expected from educators, even substitutes.
