On October 31, 2025, a South Florida man was sentenced to life in prison for the 2019 murder of his girlfriend, concluding a six-year legal battle.
Broward County Judge Andrew Siegel handed down the sentence to 49-year-old Adam Reechard Crespo, following his conviction in August for second-degree murder of 32-year-old Silvia Galva.

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of July 28, 2019, at the couple’s apartment in Hallandale Beach, located roughly 15 miles north of Miami.
Galva had reportedly spent the day with a female friend before meeting Crespo around midnight. The trio later went to a hotel bar in Hollywood before returning to the apartment after 1 a.m.
According to PEOPLE, the friend told Hallandale Beach Police Detective Christopher Grieco that she heard the couple arguing in their bedroom shortly after arriving.
She said she heard Crespo ask Galva to leave the room, and footage found on the victim’s phone, shown in the video below, confirmed this. Moments later, she heard Galva scream, and then Crespo shouted for her to call 911.
“She calls 911 and enters the room to see the victim on her back and began CPR until rescue arrives,” the affidavit stated, as per PEOPLE. “She observed the wound in the chest area and advised the victim did not have a pulse or respiration when she began CPR.”
When police arrived, Crespo told them he had been arguing with Galva and was trying to pull her off the bed. He said he grabbed her ankles and pulled, and claimed she must have held onto the spear.
The spear he mentioned was a five-foot wooden weapon with a 12-inch metal blade that was attached to the bed’s footboard as a decoration.
He said he looked away, heard a crack, and turned to find Galva impaled. Crespo told police he then pulled the spear from her chest, “hoping it was not too bad.”
At his trial, defense attorneys argued the death was a tragic accident, and they presented a medical examiner who offered scenarios for an accidental impalement.
However, the prosecution presented expert testimony saying the force and angle of the wound were consistent with a homicide, not an accident.
Jurors were shown the reconstructed bed, the spear, autopsy photos, and video of Crespo’s police interrogation. After reviewing the evidence, they found Crespo guilty of second-degree murder in less than two hours.
“He was pissed off and wanted her out,” said Assistant State Attorney Jaclyn Broudy during the proceedings, summarizing the prosecution’s motive.
At his sentencing hearing, Crespo’s parents asked the judge for mercy, stating their son loved Galva and immediately tried to save her life. Crespo himself addressed the court, saying, “I still love her and I regret my actions that night.”
Judge Siegel rejected a defense motion for a reduced 20-year sentence, stating he agreed with the jury’s verdict and noted a lack of remorse.
Outside the courtroom, Galva’s sister, Veronica Galva, was asked if justice had been served. “Definitely, definitely,” she said. “It’s been six years and he got life, so that, it’s only, not equal because we lost my sister and we lost a life and we love her and we miss her a lot,” she added.
With the life sentence now imposed, the case is formally closed, leaving a family to grieve and a man convicted of murder to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
