Guilty Plea: Man Admits to Murdering Father and Son in Cambridgeshire Villages

A 67-year-old man has entered a guilty plea for the murders of a father and son who were shot dead in two different villages in Cambridgeshire.

THE VICTIMS

The victims, Gary Dunmore, 57, and Joshua Dunmore, 32, were found deceased at their respective properties in Sutton and Bluntisham on March 29, 2023.

Stephen Alderton, who does not have a fixed address, appeared in Cambridge Crown Court and pleaded guilty to two counts of murder.

During the court proceedings, Alderton showed no emotion as he confirmed his name and entered his pleas, while family members of the victims observed from the jury seats.

The presiding Judge Mark Bishop ordered that Alderton be remanded in custody and scheduled the sentencing for October 20.

Alderton denied an additional charge of possession of a firearm, specifically a double-barrelled shotgun, with the intent to cause fear of violence to another person.

The prosecutor stated that pursuing a trial on this count would not serve the public interest, and the judge agreed to file it.

The Suspect

Police were alerted to the village of Bluntisham after 9 pm, where they discovered the body of Joshua Dunmore with a gunshot wound.

Shortly after, the body of Gary Dunmore, with gunshot wounds, was found at a property in Sutton.

Floral tributes began pouring out near the police cordon tape at Meridian Close in Bluntisham.

One of the tributes conveyed a heartfelt message to Josh, highlighting his vibrant and positive impact on others.

Another tribute expressed a wish for Josh to rest in peace and acknowledged his role as a loving father.

The community also honored Gary Dunmore as a kind and gentle man, describing him as a legend with a compassionate nature.

Neighbors fondly remembered him as someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand and engage in friendly conversations.
