Vishal Gohel, 44, was lured into believing he was having an orgy with three women, but instead he was attacked by their male accomplices who robbed him.
According to prosecutor Charlotte Newell KC, a neighbor noticed Gohel's front door ajar with the kitchen light on in the morning of Sunday, January 23, 2022.
When he returned to his second-floor flat on Bushey High Street, Herts, at 10 pm, he discovered the door still open and decided to investigate further.
Inside the flat, he made a horrifying discovery. Gohel was lying lifeless on the bedroom floor, his lower face bound with gaffer tape.
A post-mortem examination revealed significant head injuries, including bruises to his scalp, eyes, and jaw, as well as brain damage and a fractured voice box, suggesting neck compression.
The prosecutor stated that the crime scene had been cleaned and tidied to conceal the evidence. Gohel's iPhone and iWatch were stolen.
The court found Tevin Leslie, 23, from Brixton, guilty of murder and conspiracy to rob.
Sakeen Gordon, 22, from Ealing, was convicted of murder by a majority of 10 to 1 and conspiracy to rob.
Brandon Browne, 22, from Rochester, was acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter and conspiracy to rob.
Yarley Georgia Bruce-Annan, 22, from Barking, was found guilty of murder and had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob.
Faith Hoppie, 22, from Barking, was acquitted of murder but convicted of manslaughter and conspiracy to rob.
Tiana Edwards Hancock, 20, from Barking, was cleared of murder, manslaughter, and conspiracy to rob.
SUSPECTS
The court heard that Gohel had made contact with Bruce-Annan on the online marketplace website Craig's List on Saturday, January 22, 2022.
The female defendants traveled from Barking to Bushey in a taxi, arriving at 1 am, while the men arrived in Tevin Leslie's Audi at 2:25 am.
Browne had been picked up in Bromley, and Leslie then drove to Ealing to pick up Gordon, who is his cousin.
Prosecutor Newell described the incident as the culmination of a plan that had been developing throughout the day.
CCTV footage captured Gohel purchasing items from a convenience store near his home, including alcohol, soft drinks, cigarettes, and condoms, at 10:25 pm.
He had also withdrawn £100 in cash. The prosecutor mentioned that Gohel had been seen wearing the stolen iWatch, which was missing when his body was discovered.
No attempts were made to contact emergency services, but efforts were made to clean the flat.
Gohel was already dead or dying when the perpetrators left the scene, without offering any assistance.
The three men and two women have been remanded in custody and are scheduled for sentencing on September 26.
The 11 jurors, who had dedicated 9 weeks to the trial and deliberated for 21 hours and 36 minutes, were excused from further jury service for the next 10 years by Judge Richard Foster.
