Grisly Discovery: Man's Headless Body Found in Japanese Love Hotel

The lifeless body of a man was discovered in a love hotel in Japan, without his head. The man, identified as Hitoshi Ura, was last seen alive entering the establishment accompanied by an individual dressed in women's clothing.

The incident took place on July 2, 2023 in Sapporo, located on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

In an effort to arrest the culprit, police officers approached pedestrians near the love hotel on Sunday, seeking any evidence that could lead to an arrest, as reported by The Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper.

According to the hotel receptionist, Ura, 64, entered the hotel with another person at approximately 10:50 p.m. on July 1. Approximately three hours later, the receptionist was informed that the accompanying person would leave the hotel first, leaving Ura alone in the room.

It is unclear from the report whether Ura himself provided this information to the receptionist. The following day, investigators discovered Ura's lifeless body in the bathroom of a guest room, where he had reportedly been decapitated.

The cause of death, according to police, was hemorrhagic shock.

The accompanying individual, described as small in size, was observed wearing a wide-brimmed black hat, dark clothing, and carrying a large suitcase, as reported by The Asahi Shimbun.

Ura's cell phone and personal belongings were reported missing by the police. On July 4, his car was found in a parking lot.

Detective Daiki Kanamori from the Sapporo Chuo Police Station stated that the investigation is progressing and they are actively collecting information in hopes of apprehending the perpetrator.

Love hotels in Japan are typically known for their themed rooms and hourly rates, catering to couples seeking a discreet location for intimate encounters.

While deaths in love hotels in Japan are rare, there have been previous incidents.

In 2021, a man and a woman were found dead in a love hotel in Tokyo.

Police determined that the woman, in her 30s, had killed the man, in his 20s, before taking her own life. Similarly, in 2018, a 46-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were discovered dead in a love hotel in Saitama, near Tokyo.

Police concluded that they had committed suicide.

The Japan National Police has not yet responded to requests for comment from Insider.
