Heartless Neighbour, Jamie Barrow, Found Guilty of Murdering Mother and Two Daughters in Tragic Fire

A heartless man who set fire to his neighbor's flat and callously ignored the pleas for help from the mother and two young daughters inside has been found guilty of their murders. Jamie Barrow, aged 31, deliberately started the fire in Clifton, Nottingham, last November, targeting Fatoumatta Hydara's flat, where she lived with her daughters, Fatimah Drammeh and Naeemah Drammeh.

Tragically, both three-year-old Fatimah and one-year-old Naeemah lost their lives in the blaze on November 20, and Mrs. Hydara, aged 28, succumbed to smoke inhalation two days later. During the trial at Nottingham Crown Court, it was revealed that Barrow had a grudge over rubbish being left in an alleyway and callously watched as the fire grew, ignoring the desperate screams for help from inside the flat.

Although Barrow had already admitted manslaughter, the jury unanimously convicted him of murder on Tuesday after nearly seven hours of deliberation. He was also found guilty of arson endangering life.

The Burnt Apartment

Following the verdict, some members of the victims' family, who had been present throughout the proceedings, wept while Barrow remained silent. In a statement, the victims' family expressed the immeasurable suffering caused by Barrow's horrific actions and the profound impact it had on them emotionally, psychologically, physiologically, and financially.

The family described Fatoumatta as a caring and beloved daughter, wife, sister, mother, and friend. They mourned the loss of Fatimah and Naeemah, who had bright futures ahead of them but were tragically cut short. The family emphasized the heartlessness and cruelty of Barrow's actions, leaving a multigenerational trauma that would never be fully understood.

Fatoumatta, Fatimah, and Naeemah (The Victims)

During the trial, it was revealed that Barrow had consumed several cans of beer before pouring petrol through the letterbox of the flat and igniting the fire. The pram outside the door and the hallway light indicated that he was aware the victims were inside. Despite this knowledge, Barrow made no attempt to assist those trapped in the flat once the fire started.

Barrow's motive for targeting the neighboring flat remained unexplained, but he admitted to suffering from a low mood and emotionally unstable personality disorder. He claimed that he did not anticipate the fire spreading so quickly and confessed to the police out of guilt. However, the jury rejected his assertion that he had no intention to harm anyone.

Jamie Barrow (The Accused)

The sentencing for Barrow is scheduled for Friday at the same court. Detective Inspector Kaz Smithson expressed satisfaction that justice had been served for Fatoumatta, Fatimah, and Naeemah, acknowledging the family's remarkable dignity throughout the trial. Smithson labeled Barrow an extremely dangerous individual and commended the investigative team for providing overwhelming evidence of murder.

The detective extended gratitude to the family for their strength and dignity, hoping that the verdicts would bring them some comfort in the face of this truly awful crime.
