In a tragic incident on a North Dakota street, a police officer was killed and two other officers are in critical condition after a man opened fire.

The shooting occurred in Fargo, N.D., shortly before 3 p.m. while officers were responding to a car crash at an intersection. The suspect, who remains unidentified, was killed by officers returning gunfire.

Fargo police confirmed that a fifth person also suffered serious injuries during the shooting.

Late Friday night, the police department released a statement confirming the death of one of its officers and the critical condition of two others.

Additionally, two civilians involved in the incident sustained serious injuries, including the suspect who died.

The names of the officers and the fifth victim are being withheld until their families have been notified. A procession in honor of the fallen officer was held, with hundreds of squad cars parading through the city.
