Texas Man Takes His Own Life After Allegedly Ambushing And Murdering His Ex-Girlfriend

A 20-year-old man from Texas, wanted for the ambush murder of his girlfriend after she ended their relationship, tragically took his own life at the same location where he allegedly killed her. 

Juan Carlos Mata committed suicide with a shotgun as police responded to a call about a suspicious male near his girlfriend's makeshift memorial in a Pasadena apartment complex near Houston. According to authorities, Mata had been waiting for Lesley Reyes to return home from work before midnight on Monday when he fatally shot her.

The suicide put an end to the search for the suspect, but police stated that further investigation is required, including confirming if the shotgun used by Mata was the same one used in Reyes' murder.

While the conclusion of the manhunt brings some relief to the community, Pasadena Police Sgt. Raul Granados acknowledged that it doesn't make it any easier for the families involved. However, it does ensure the safety of the community, knowing that there is no armed individual at large.

After the shooting on Monday, Mata remained at the crime scene but walked away before the police arrived, evading immediate capture. The officers prioritized attending to the deceased victim, preventing them from pursuing him. Despite extensive efforts, including searching nearby areas and sharing his picture, the police were unable to gather any leads about Mata's whereabouts.

The victim's family revealed that the couple had been in a toxic relationship before their breakup last month after dating for approximately a year. Mata had become obsessed with Reyes, causing concern among her loved ones. The shooting has left the family deeply wounded.

Neighbors in the area expressed shock and horror over the incident, recounting the distressing sounds of Reyes' screams. The tragic turn of events has left the community shaken, realizing that someone who appeared happy was ultimately a victim of cold-blooded murder.

Reyes, described as a vibrant and beautiful soul, was only 19 years old when she was taken away too soon. A fundraising site has been established to support her family during this difficult time.
