A heartbreaking incident took place at Cosmila Hotel in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, where a young lady named Chinyere Awuda lost her life.
Initial reports suggested that she was beaten to death by people at the hotel, who accused her of stealing money during a birthday celebration. Read the details here.
However, recent investigations conducted by the Anambra state police command have brought forth a different revelation.
The police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the pathologist's autopsy report found no signs of trauma on Chinyere Awuda's body.
Instead, the cause of her untimely demise was determined to be drowning. On the 17th of July 2023, her lifeless body was discovered in an abandoned swimming pool within Cosmila Hotel's premises.
It appears that Chinyere might have accidentally fallen into the pool and drowned, as she was reportedly seen running away when confronted by others at the hotel.
Efforts to locate her that night proved futile, leading to the tragic outcome.
The celebrant of the birthday event at the hotel was questioned by the police during their investigation.
However, the autopsy findings have contradicted the initial claims of assault, bringing the focus to the unfortunate drowning incident.
As the investigation continues, the case file will be forwarded to the Attorney General for vetting and legal advice, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of pool safety and highlights the need for precautions to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.
