A female prison officer who engaged in a six-month affair with a prisoner, spent a total of 380 hours talking on the phone to her prison lover.
Katie Loxton, aged 27 was working at HMP Oakwood in Staffordshire, and that was how she met 32-year-old Adam Higgs.
Higgs placed 3,451 calls to Loxton, talking for over 380 hours, resulting in a cost of £798 between July 7, 2021, and January 13, 2022.
Loxton, residing in Sandwell, West Mids, has now received a 12-month jail sentence for her misconduct in a public office.
Wolverhampton Crown Court discovered that she frequently spent time in the block where Higgs was staying, raising suspicions among fellow officers.
Further investigation unveiled that the duo had bypassed the prison's security system, communicating through a fake contact on Higgs's cell phone.
Higgs managed to hide a mobile phone and used it to communicate with Loxton via social media.
The court learned that they engaged in "sexual acts with each other" using the device.
Loxton was arrested, and her residence was searched on January 27 last year, leading to the discovery of three handwritten letters from Higgs.
Higgs was interviewed in prison about the findings in March 2022 and both of them admitted to their offences in court.
In addition to misconduct in a public office, Loxton confessed to transmitting or causing the transmission of images or sound through electronic means from within a prison.
Higgs received an eight-month sentence for possessing a device capable of transmitting or receiving images, sounds, or information within a prison.
He also admitted to transmitting images or sound without authorization.
This case adds to a rising trend of prison officers engaging in affairs, with 36 warders dismissed over relationships in the past three years.
In 2019, prison officer Ayshea Gunn was jailed for 12 months for having a sexual relationship with an inmate.
