A dad is currently facing a murder trial after he stabbed his half-naked wife to death in their kitchen while under the influence of drugs he bought from the dark web.
The shocking court trial took a surprising turn on its second day when Conrad Iyayi changed his plea to guilty.
The brutal incident happened in February 2022 when Conrad fatally stabbed his wife, Katy Harris, in their Derby home.
She was a mother of three, and the prosecution referred to it as a needless and brutal killing.
The tragedy occurred while their 11-year-old son, Theo, was upstairs, completely unaware of the horror unfolding downstairs.
During the trial, the court heard two 999 calls made by Conrad shortly before 7.30 am on the day of the incident.
He admitted to the police that he had killed his wife. The police found Katy's lifeless body face down in the kitchen, covered in blood.
The attack was carried out with three large kitchen knives found nearby.
Conrad, who had bought drugs from the dark web, claimed that he had hallucinated and mistakenly ingested methadone, leading to the tragic event.
He expressed regret and said he had no intention of harming Katy, as they had spent a pleasant evening together before the incident.
After his arrest, Conrad confessed to buying methadone from the dark web and acknowledged the dangers of drugs.
The court adjourned the sentence until August 18, and the judge questioned Conrad's memory of the attack.
The sentencing will include victim impact statements from the family, and the defense has acknowledged that there can only be one sentence in this heartbreaking case.
