In a devastating incident on Tuesday, a bus in Dakar faced a horrifying attack when someone threw a petrol bomb at it.
The interior minister reported that two people lost their lives, and five others were injured.
The bus driver, Abdoulaye Diop, who got hurt in the attack, shared his account with a journalist.
He said that a group of hooded youngsters got on the bus and started insulting him. To make matters worse, one of them lit a bomb and threw it inside the bus.
The bus was on its way from the suburbs to Dakar's center when a group of people blocked its path.
The situation got even more distressing as the attackers also stole money and mobile phones from the passengers.
The interior minister, Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome, received information that seven hooded individuals took control of the bus.
He expressed his outrage at the incident while standing beside the burnt-out bus. In footage shared on social media, Diop mentioned that two people were killed, and five others suffered severe injuries.
This incident occurred amidst ongoing unrest related to political opponent Ousmane Sonko's standoff with authorities since 2021.
During this period, the country witnessed riots, looting, and attacks on public transport.
The company manager, Mbaye Amar, believed that "demonstrators or bandits" were behind the petrol bombing.
However, the interior minister described it as a "terrorist attack" and refrained from linking it to the protests happening in Senegal after Sonko faced new charges, and his party got dissolved, affecting his presidential plans.
