Justice Served: Brooklyn Dealer Who Sold Deadly Drugs to Actor Michael K. Williams Gets 10-Year Sentence

A drug dealer from Brooklyn, known as "Green Eyes" or Irvin Cartagena, has been handed a 10-year prison sentence after selling fentanyl-laced heroin that killed popular actor Michael K. Williams.

Security camera footage captured Cartagena providing the drugs to Williams just a day before the actor was discovered dead in his luxurious Williamsburg penthouse on September 6, 2021.

The US Attorney's office for the Southern District of New York stated, "Michael K. Williams tragically lost his life after using the drugs sold to him by Cartagena.

Despite the danger of their product, Cartagena and his associates continued selling this potentially deadly fentanyl-laced heroin."

Cartagena pleaded guilty in April to conspiring to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and a synthetic opioid called fentanyl analogue.

Manhattan federal Judge Ronnie Abrams sentenced him to 10 years in prison and an additional five years of supervised release.

Initially fleeing to Puerto Rico, Cartagena was arrested in February 2022.

He was part of a group of four dealers who faced charges related to Williams' death. They had been selling illegal substances on the streets of Williamsburg between August 2020 and February 2022.

All four men, including 71-year-old Carlos Macci, have pleaded guilty.

Macci, who was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, received this relatively lenient sentence after a plea from David Simon, co-creator of "The Wire," who highlighted Williams' opposing stance on mass incarceration and the failed war on drugs.

Michael K. Williams, widely recognised for his role as Omar Little in the HBO series "The Wire," faced a tragic end due to the dangerous drugs he acquired from the streets.
