Toddler Loses Toe in Violent Kidnap Attempt

A violent individual who attempted to kidnap a toddler has been sentenced to jail for seriously injuring the young child during the kidnap attempt.

The convicted man, Martin Enow, forcefully grabbed an 18-month-old girl from her mother on a street in Bolton, resulting in the child losing her toe.

This alarming event was described by detectives as a nightmare scenario for any parent.

During the incident, Enow, 24, seized the toddler by her neck and attempted to flee while holding her upside down, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The frightened mother, who was also attending to her other child, chased after Enow. A violent struggle ensued as she tried to rescue her child from his grasp.

A concerned passer-by also joined the effort in restraining Enow, while the mother managed to retrieve the injured girl, who was bleeding heavily from her foot by that point.

Another helpful passer-by, who had her child in the car, stopped and rushed out to assist.

Later, it was revealed that Enow had been experiencing a psychotic episode during the incident.

While strangers were still trying to intervene, Enow tried to steal a Good Samaritan's car. However, since he didn't have the keys, he escaped on foot.

He then entered the passenger seat of a taxi that had stopped at a nearby intersection. He requested the driver to take him to the football stadium, but the driver declined and kept Enow locked in the car until the police arrived.

The toddler suffered the loss of her toe and required surgery on her foot due to the traumatic ordeal. She also sustained a broken arm.

Enow eventually pleaded guilty to charges of kidnap and inflicting grievous bodily harm in a previous hearing.

He received a four-year prison sentence on Wednesday.

Garry Crawford, the Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said that the incident was a sad one for any parent to witness.

He commended the quick actions of the child's mother, the bystanders, and the taxi driver for preventing further harm.

Crawford acknowledged that Enow had been dealing with a mental health condition during the commission of the offense.

He expressed hope that the conclusion of the case would provide some closure for the child's family, allowing them to move forward from this distressing incident.
