Two men who participated in a spree of 12 high-value watch robberies across London have been imprisoned. This was after a successful four-week manhunt by Metropolitan Police detectives.
Asonu McKenzie, aged 29, with no fixed address, and Reshaun Nembhard, aged 29, also with no fixed address, both pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit robbery between May 25 and July 15 of 2022
In a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on August 18, McKenzie was sentenced to 14 years in jail, while Nembhard received an eight-year prison term.
Over a two-month period in the preceding summer, a series of robberies occurred in several London areas, including Lambeth, Southwark, Bromley, Croydon, Wandsworth, and Hammersmith and Fulham.
The modus operandi remained consistent: the suspects arrived in a silver Audi Q2 and scouted the vicinity to locate their targets.
Once a victim was identified, one or two individuals exited the vehicle and approached the victims from behind.
A fatal blow to the back of their heads with a blunt object left the victims helpless, after which their valuable watches were forcibly removed from their wrists.
The injuries inflicted on the victims ranged from minor scrapes and cuts to fractured skulls. Sadly one victim almost lost their eyes.
Detectives from the Robbery Investigation Team on the Central South Basic Command Unit spearheaded the investigation.
They meticulously reviewed countless hours of CCTV footage to identify the Audi and subsequently trace its occupants.
Acting Detective Sergeant Ash Francis of Central South BCU expressed pride in the investigation conducted by the Robbery team.
He commended their dedication and perseverance, which resulted in the apprehension and conviction of the two violent offenders.
In another news, a man has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a minor. See detailed story here.
