Florida Couple Faces Life Sentence for Child Exploitation

In Manatee County, Florida, a couple has been apprehended on charges related to child exploitation, for producing and distributing child pornography involving minors aged between 10 months and 10 years old.

Nicholas Bassler Jr., aged 24, and Sierra Campany, aged 24, stand accused of grave offenses, including capital sexual battery, which carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole upon conviction.

The case unfolded when the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office's Internet Crimes Against Children unit received numerous cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on June 5, 2023.

These tips indicated the transmission of child sexual abuse material on Facebook.

Following verification that the images constituted child exploitation material, investigators traced the source to a residence on the 5000 block of 23rd Street West in Bradenton.

Subsequently, after additional investigation and contact with Bassler and Campany on September 13, the authorities obtained a search warrant for the residence.

During the execution of the warrant, law enforcement seized a tablet referenced in the cyber tip, as well as various other electronic devices.

Forensic analysis of these devices uncovered numerous disturbing images and videos depicting child exploitation, including sexual acts on the children involving Bassler and Campany.

Both individuals purportedly confessed to their crimes, leading to Campany's arrest on September 14 for capital sexual battery and Bassler's arrest on the same charge the following day. In addition to these charges, both face allegations of possession, transmission, and production of child pornography.

Detectives suspect the possibility of additional victims and urge anyone who believes their children may have had contact with Bassler or Campany to reach out to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children detectives at 941-747-3011 ext. 2522.

The investigation into this distressing matter remains ongoing.
