French Rapper MHD Receives 12-Year Prison Sentence in Murder Case

French rapper MHD, whose real name is Mohamed Sylla and is 29 years old, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in a murder case. The court in Paris found him guilty in connection with the gang-related killing of Loic K in the capital city back in 2018.

According to the French court's findings, the victim was struck by MHD's Mercedes car and subsequently attacked and stabbed by a group of up to 12 individuals. MHD had initially pleaded "not guilty" to the charge.

Among his co-defendants, five were also convicted, while three were acquitted.

During the trial, MHD repeatedly asserted his innocence, stating, "From the beginning, I have maintained my innocence in this case, and I will continue to maintain my innocence." He claimed that he was not present at the crime scene and suggested that the case against him relied on rumors.

However, evidence presented included footage captured by a local resident through a window, which featured MHD. Additionally, witnesses identified him based on his haircut and a Puma sweatshirt, as he was a brand ambassador for the company.

The car involved in the incident was discovered abandoned and burned in a parking lot a day after the murder.

MHD is renowned for pioneering the genre of afro-trap, which combines hip-hop with African traditions. He gained widespread fame after becoming a viral sensation in 2015.

In January 2019, he faced homicide charges and was subsequently imprisoned. After spending a year and a half in custody during ongoing investigations, he was released and even released a new album.

As the verdict was delivered, emotional scenes unfolded in the courtroom, with several women in the public gallery breaking into tears. MHD, known for his passion for football, particularly for the Paris Saint-Germain football club, remained composed.

Born in France to Guinean and Senegalese parents, he had garnered international acclaim, earning recognition from global stars like Drake and Madonna.

In Fairfax, Virginia, a mother, Veronica Youngblood, has been sentenced to 78 years in prison for a horrifying crime in which she sedated her two daughters with melatonin-laced gummy bears before fatally shooting them. See detailed story here.
