Georgia Man, Shaquell Fisher Found Guilty of Fatally Shooting His Younger Brother Faces Lengthy Prison Term

In a heart-wrenching incident in Newton County, Georgia, a man has been found guilty of the brutal murder of his own brother. This grim tale unfolded during a dispute that escalated into a fatal confrontation in their mother's home.

Soon, the convicted man, 29-year-old Shaquell Fisher, will discover the length of his prison sentence.

The Newton County District Attorney, Randy McGinley, is in the process of preparing a presentence investigation report and anticipates seeking a substantial prison term for Shaquell, given the severity of the crime.

The tragic incident occurred at midnight on the Fourth of July in 2021. The brothers had been attending a gathering at their mother's residence but later left with a friend to attend another party, returning home later that evening.

As tensions rose, a heated argument erupted between the siblings.

Tragically, during this confrontation, Shaquell Fisher, then 26 years old, discharged a .22 caliber pistol, firing nine shots at his younger brother. This horrifying act unfolded while other family members pleaded with him to cease the violence.

Shockingly, it was reported that Deondre Fisher attempted to defend himself by trying to scratch and gouge his brother's eyes out during the altercation.

Their mother informed the police that the dispute had originated from trivial matters and had been exacerbated by alcohol consumption, as reported by the Covington News, approximately a week after the tragic event.

After emptying the .22 pistol, Shaquell Fisher retrieved another firearm from the home, a 9 mm, and returned downstairs to shoot his brother four more times. Deondre Fisher, 25 years old at the time, was already gravely injured and collapsed against a wall. Medical records indicated that it was these final shots from the 9 mm that proved fatal.

Shaquell Fisher faced charges of murder and two counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt of certain felonies. Records from the Newton County Sheriff's Office revealed that an initial bond of $75,000 was requested for him but later revoked due to a violation.

Consequently, he spent over 700 days in detention, as confirmed by arrest records.

In a poignant statement, District Attorney Randy McGinley emphasized the tragic nature of the case, as it involved two brothers. He expressed his hope that this grim incident serves as a sobering reminder, especially to young individuals, that resorting to deadly force out of anger or embarrassment is not a solution.
