Man Convicted of Murder After Girlfriend's Tragic Death on Blendon Township Road

A man from Columbus has received a life sentence in connection with a tragic incident in 2021 when he brutally assaulted his girlfriend and left her on Westerville Road in Blendon Township.

Subsequently, she was struck by multiple vehicles during the night.

Antoine P. Phillips, aged 34, had left the scene by the time the first driver unintentionally ran over 35-year-old Jamie Fulton on May 18, 2021, along the 4300 block of Westerville Road in Blendon Township.

This information emerged during his trial last month, where testimonies and evidence were presented.

Although Phillips was acquitted of a domestic violence charge related to the assault, a jury in Franklin County Common Pleas Court convicted him of murder and kidnapping on August 18. There was some debate during the trial regarding the living arrangements of the couple.

On Tuesday, Judge Michael Holbrook of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court handed down a life sentence to Phillips, with the possibility of parole consideration after 15 years.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business, albeit in black and white and from a distance, was shown during the trial. This footage depicted Phillips assaulting Fulton.

Prosecutors argued that the video indicated Phillips had beaten Fulton until she lost consciousness, after which he moved her into the roadway.

Phillips then left the scene, and Fulton remained motionless as vehicles passed her for approximately 45 seconds before the first vehicle struck her, as per the prosecutors' account.

Police, responding to 911 calls, discovered Fulton lying on the road, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Phillips was apprehended the following day.

In another news, video footage has surfaced on how a convicted prisoner escaped from a prison. See detailed story here.
