In Oregon, there's big news as authorities have finally cracked a long-standing mystery surrounding a newborn baby girl who was tragically found at a recycling center over a decade ago.
Back on May 28, 2013, the Portland police made a heart-wrenching discovery at the EFI recycling center located at 4325 North Commerce Street. They stumbled upon the lifeless body of a baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached. What's even more distressing is that the authorities later confirmed that this innocent baby had fallen victim to a horrific crime.
This little angel, affectionately referred to as "Baby Precious" by those involved in the case, was described as an African-American baby girl. Despite countless efforts and tips from the community, detectives struggled for years to identify this precious soul.
The community rallied together, and this case garnered national attention, but unfortunately, it eventually went cold. It seemed like all investigative leads had hit a dead-end. However, in 2019, a breakthrough occurred when the investigation into Baby Precious' tragic death changed leadership, and DNA samples were sent to a cutting-edge forensic genetic genealogy lab.
And now, in a recent announcement by the Portland Police Bureau, they've finally made an arrest in the case. The baby's father, 53-year-old Alnath Omar Oliver, is now in custody, facing charges of manslaughter, criminal mistreatment, rape, and concealing the birth of an infant. The baby, as it turns out, had a name – Amara.
An autopsy conducted by the Oregon State Medical Examiner revealed that baby Amara was a full-term newborn and had likely been born just days before her remains were discovered.
The arrest comes nearly four years after tissue samples were sent to a forensic crime lab.
While the initial results didn't provide a breakthrough, in December 2021, the chief detective in the case received crucial information about a family connection. It took another year and a half to positively identify baby Amara.
In another disturbing case, sex traffickers involved in a shocking criminal ring were found to have taken selfies following the brutal beating of one of their victims with a rolling pin. See detailed story here
