In a disturbing case, sex traffickers involved in a shocking criminal ring were found to have taken selfies following the brutal beating of one of their victims with a rolling pin.
This heart-wrenching incident was part of a sex trafficking operation based in Flushing, Queens, New York, masterminded by Manager Yuan Yuan Chen and her boss Rong Rong Xu.
The sinister operation extended its dark reach all the way to Oregon and exploited hundreds of sex workers, most of whom were Chinese migrants forced to surrender their passports, as revealed by U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Breon Peace.
Chen and Xu were apprehended, but before their arrest, they had taken selfies together mere hours after one victim had allegedly suffered a vicious attack involving a rolling pin. These selfies were later used as evidence by prosecutors to deny bail to Chen.
Prosecutors unveiled a horrifying regime of control, where videos depicting workers being bound and subjected to beatings with hammers, wrenches, and baseball bats were circulated to deter them from pursuing independent work or joining competitors.
One particularly disturbing incident involved a victim who was allegedly duct-taped and brutally beaten with a baseball bat, all while the perpetrators callously made depraved jokes about the assault, as detailed in court filings.
Xu even texted her partner, stating, "Serves this woman right to get beaten. Really, brought this evil on herself. After a period of time, will need to beat her again," to which Chen responded with a laughing/crying emoji.
On another occasion, Xu callously remarked to Yuan Yuan Chen that "it was too easy to kill a person in America, that it was like killing a chicken." This revelation led to a judge denying bail for Chen on September 14, citing the weight of the evidence against her and her substantial connections to China.
It was disclosed that Xu had made 11 international trips between 2016 and 2019, including five to China.
Chen reportedly raked in approximately $10,000 per month, which included earnings from a brothel operating in an undisclosed area of Queens.
The criminal organization itself amassed over $750,000, with accounts in Xu's name responsible for nearly half of that sum, according to prosecutors.
Police Commissioner Edward Caban decried the heinous nature of the crimes, emphasizing their severity.
The investigation and subsequent arrests of Yuan Yuan Chen, along with two alleged enforcers, Yichu Chen and Johnnie Kim, were conducted by a collaborative effort between the NYPD and FBI task force. Raids on brothels along the "Market of Sweethearts" in Corona were also part of this extensive operation.
