Security Guard Shoots And Kills His Ex-girlfriend, Her Present Boyfriend And Their 3-year-old Child



A security guard's life took a dark turn when he reportedly shot three people, including his ex-girlfriend, in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This shocking incident unfolded within the Nhlalakahle Informal Settlement during the early hours of Saturday morning, September 9, 2023.

According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the spokesperson for the provincial police, the security officer, employed by a private security firm, made a visit to his former girlfriend's residence. What followed was a heated argument, leading the suspect to allegedly open fire, targeting the woman, her current boyfriend, and two young children.


Tragically, the ex-girlfriend, aged 27, her boyfriend, and a 3-year-old child lost their lives at the scene. The second child, a 2-year-old, was swiftly rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care.

In a shocking twist, the suspect was later discovered on Bishopstowe Road, where he had apparently attempted to take his own life by shooting himself. He was quickly transported to the hospital, with law enforcement officers keeping a close watch. 

A firearm was recovered next to him.

The authorities are actively probing three counts of murder and one case of attempted murder in this harrowing incident.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, recounted their response to the tragedy. 


Paramedics received multiple distress calls about a shooting incident in Northdale. Upon arrival, they were confronted with a scene of utter devastation, with numerous victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The crime scene was divided into two distinct incidents.

In the first, a 27-year-old woman and a 3-year-old girl had tragically sustained fatal gunshot injuries. The 2-year-old boy was in critical condition and quickly transported to the hospital for urgent care.

In the second incident, which appeared to be linked, a male was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head. 

He was also taken to the hospital and he is in a critical condition.
