Shocking Tragedy: Missouri Grandfather Accidentally Shoots Grandson

In a heartbreaking incident, a 70-year-old grandfather from Missouri reportedly confessed to accidentally shooting and killing his 16-year-old grandson, Royce Hayes Osburn, last week.

According to FOX 4, the tragic event took place in a Clinton, Missouri home.

The grandfather, identified as Thomas Ribby, told investigators that he was unaware the gun was loaded. However, family members questioned why the gun was pointed at his grandson in the first place.

Although there had been prior conflicts between Ribby and the teenager, no one anticipated it would escalate to such a devastating outcome.

Charging documents reveal that Ribby had initially given a Glock to Osburn for play earlier that evening. A witness recounted seeing the victim handling the firearm, pretending to clear rooms.

Following the incident, Osburn sought refuge with his mother, Melissa Ribby, clutching his chest and uttering the heartbreaking words, "papa shot me." Tragically, Melissa Ribby held her son as he passed away.

Upon the arrival of the police, Thomas Ribby locked himself inside his apartment, according to the report.

This unimaginable loss serves as a painful reminder of the importance of firearm safety and vigilance, especially when in the presence of young individuals. It is a tragedy that has left a family shattered and a community in mourning.
