Tragic Turn of Events For Sierra Jamison: Brave Black Woman's Fight for Survival Ends in Heartbreaking Loss

 

Approximately a month ago, Sierra Jamison, a 30-year-old woman, faced an attempted carjacking, an ordeal not uncommon for Black women in America, who often find themselves targeted due to their gender and race.

Sierra valiantly resisted the assailant's advances, aided by a group of fellow women who rushed to her aid. Together, they ensured her escape without harm. 

She shared her harrowing experience with CBS Chicago, aiming to inspire other Black women who have encountered similar violent situations - acknowledging that many were not as fortunate to emerge unscathed, or even alive, like she did.

Tragically, on Monday, Sierra fell victim to the very violence she fought against. Her lifeless body was discovered in a parking garage, strangled by her boyfriend, 63-year-old Lawrence Boyle.

On that ill-fated day, Sierra had a conversation with her mother, mentioning her intention to move her car into a nearby parking garage. It was there that Boyle allegedly lay in wait for her, as detailed in charging documents from the Chicago Police Department, as reported by HuffPost.

Growing worried when Sierra failed to return, her mother dispatched her brother to investigate the scene. 

He found Boyle, in possession of Sierra's phone. When questioned about it, Boyle claimed that Sierra had thrown it at him during a heated argument. Unconvinced, Sierra's mother personally visited the garage, discovering her daughter's lifeless body concealed beneath a tarp. 

Boyle had fled, but phone records and testimonies indicated that he had confessed to the crime during a call to his ex-wife.

Subsequently, Boyle surrendered to the police, admitting to the killing. He now faces first-degree murder charges, asserting that he initially believed Sierra was armed, but upon realizing she wasn't, he continued to strangle her nonetheless.

Sierra, a devoted phlebotomist and mother to a resilient 6-year-old boy, who not only grapples with autism but recently underwent open heart surgery for an undisclosed medical condition, had drawn strength from her son during the carjacking incident. 

She emphasized her determination to protect all she had worked tirelessly for, particularly her son's well-being.

Reflecting on that incident last month, Sierra expressed, "I know how many sacrifices I've done for my family, my son, because he's been through a lot. My son had open-heart surgery. He has a disability, so he means a lot to me, and I'm not fixing to let this young man – with a knife at that – take anything I work hard for away from me."

Additionally, she drew inspiration from the group of women who rallied to her aid, characterizing it as a moment of empowerment for Black and women alike.

The tragic loss of Sierra Jamison has left many in shock and mourning, as her untimely demise shatters the story of a brave and resilient Black woman striving to provide for her family. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and loved ones.
