In Pennsylvania, a guy named Zykeem Fields got hit with a 15-year prison sentence for doing something really awful.
Fields, who's just 23 years old, owned up to some serious charges - Assault in the 1st Degree and 1st Degree Robbery. These charges stemmed from a brutal attack on an elderly woman back in 2022.
The judge laid down this sentence on August 25, 2023, and it's meant to bring justice to the victim, Mrs. Hidalgo.
Back in September 28, 2022, Zykeem Fields decided to target Romeo and Linaflor Hidalgo right after they left WSFS Bank. They'd withdrawn quite a bit of money.
Fields followed them to their home in Wilmington, Delaware, and that's where he carried out this crazy attack. Mrs. Hidalgo was just about to turn 83, but instead of celebrating, she had a terrifying experience.
Fields violently grabbed her purse, and in the process, she took a nasty tumble down five concrete steps. This fall left her with severe brain damage and a bunch of other injuries.
The injuries were no joke.
She had a headfirst fall, which led to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a subdural hematoma, and her right eye's orbital blowout fracture. She had to stay in the hospital for a full month, and during that time, she had to be intubated just to keep her airway open.
She even had a stroke before they moved her to a rehab facility for another month of treatment.
What Fields did was so messed up that everyone was furious, and the justice system didn't hold back.
The Superior Court Judge threw down a 15-year prison sentence on Zykeem Fields, followed by probation.
They wanted to make sure he faced the consequences of his cruel actions and keep the community safe from any more harm.
Delaware's Attorney General, Jennings, couldn't believe what Fields had done. He called it "shocking and callous" and recognized how much this hurt the victim.
Jennings gave props to the prosecutors, the Wilmington Police Department, and all the other folks who worked hard to make sure Fields faced the music.
In another news, two men have been arrested for a robbery where the robbers stole items worth over $29,000. See detailed story here.
