Florida Bus Driver Arrested for Allegedly Leaving Sleeping Child Unattended While She Ran Errands

In Florida, a bus driver finds herself in trouble, facing charges of child neglect for allegedly leaving a sleeping child unattended on her bus while she ran errands.

The accused, Elizabeth Carrero, a 33-year-old resident of Miami Gardens, reportedly picked up a four-year-old girl along with 11 other children at 7:30 a.m. on September 19 before the school day began.

According to reports, the child fell asleep on the bus while en route to the Henry ES Reeves K-8 Center Primary Academy.

After dropping off the other children at 7:45 a.m., Carrero allegedly left the sleeping child on the bus and proceeded to run errands, which included a bank visit, a trip to a mechanic, refueling, and making breakfast at her home, all while the child remained on board.

An arrest report obtained by NBC Miami mentioned that a neighbor noticed the child exiting the bus, drenched in sweat, which led the neighbor to knock on Carrero's door. After being alerted to the child's presence, Carrero contacted the girl's parents, who then came to pick up their child.

On Thursday, Carrero was arrested and charged with one count of child neglect. She was later released from jail after posting bail.
