In Florida, two individuals have been arrested after a teenage girl discovered that she had been sexually assaulted when a video of the assault began circulating online. Ethan Eures and Daniel Brown were taken into custody last week, as announced by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in a press release.
According to the statement, they both participated in an assault on an underage girl during a party.
The press release stated, "On September 23, 2023, a group of teenagers gathered for a party in Plant City and engaged in underage drinking. One person became intoxicated to the point of losing consciousness. It was during this vulnerable state that Daniel Brown, 17, raped the unconscious victim."
Eures is alleged to have recorded the assault, and the statement noted, "This act was captured on video and spread on social media shortly thereafter by Ethan Eures, 18."
The victim, who has not been publicly identified, became aware of the sexual assault through the video footage captured by Eures. She then contacted detectives, and both Brown and Eures confessed to their reprehensible actions, according to the sheriff's office.
Brown was arrested on September 28, and Eures turned himself in one day later.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his disgust at the actions of these individuals, who exploited someone in such a vulnerable state. He extended his deepest sympathies to the young woman and commended her bravery in coming forward to the deputies.
Chronister emphasized that this arrest sends a clear message to anyone thinking they can violate another person. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate such actions in the community, and they will ensure that the victim receives the justice she deserves.
Court records indicate that Eures, who posted bond last week, is facing charges of two counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Brown has been charged with sexual battery by a person younger than 18 upon a victim aged 12 or older.
In another development in Minnesota, a 17-year-old is set to spend over two decades in prison for the shooting death of a beloved 44-year-old youth hockey coach and father of two. See detailed story here
