Georgia Manhunt: Police Hunting 4 Escaped Inmates Discover Separate Murder Suspect, Who Then Shoots and Kills Himself

Authorities in Georgia were on the hunt for four inmates who managed to escape from a jail earlier this month. In a twist of fate, their investigation led them to a separate fugitive wanted for murder, who ultimately turned the gun on himself.

In a recent Facebook post, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office revealed that members of the U.S. Marshals Service received tips related to the escaped inmates, prompting a visit to The Pines on Vineville apartment community in Macon, Georgia, at around 7 a.m.

Upon knocking on an apartment door, law enforcement received gunfire from inside. Subsequently, the sheriff's office's SWAT team entered the apartment, discovering a man who had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The injured individual was identified as Christian Demond Williams, aged 23, a fugitive wanted for murder, who had been missing for over seven months. As of Monday, Williams remained in critical condition in a local hospital.

It was mentioned in the Facebook post that "Christian Williams's involvement in the incident of the four escaped inmates is currently under investigation."

Earlier in the year, Williams had been thought to be kidnapped on March 6, shortly before his scheduled court appearance for 2021 murder charges. These charges were related to a fatal shooting at a Macon, Georgia, convenience store, as reported by CBS News. The circumstances of his disappearance raised questions about whether he was indeed kidnapped or on the run. District Attorney Anita Howard expressed the need to have Mr. Williams back in custody for the safety of both himself and the community.

A woman named Mykia Mynesha Williams, who was present at the apartment, was arrested and charged with aiding an escape. However, the exact relationship between her and Christian Williams is unclear, and it remains uncertain whether she has legal representation.

The four men who escaped, including one facing a murder charge, managed to break free through a damaged day room window and a cut fence. Awaiting them at 3 a.m. was a blue Dodge Challenger, as detailed by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in a prior statement.

These escapees were identified as Joey Fournier, aged 52, facing murder charges; Marc Kerry Anderson, aged 24, held for aggravated assault; Johnifer Dernard Barnwell, under U.S. Marshals' detention, and Chavis Demaryo Stokes, aged 29, accused of possession of a firearm and drug trafficking.

Sheriff David Davis disclosed in a news conference last week that a breach in the jail's fence was found around 6 a.m. The inmates were believed to have used items brought into the enclosed area of the fence for their escape.

The blue Dodge Challenger thought to be involved in the escape was later found abandoned in a blood bank parking lot in Macon, Georgia.

A combined reward of $75,000 is being offered by local and federal authorities for information leading to the capture of the four escaped inmates.
