Halloween Horror: Child Allegedly Confronted with Gun by Michael Yifan Wen During Trick-or-Treating in New York

A New York family's Halloween festivities took a horrifying turn as a young child was reportedly confronted with a firearm, leaving the entire family in a state of shock and distress. 

Michael Yifan Wen, a 43-year-old resident of Manhasset, New York, was apprehended and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and menacing following the alarming incident that unfolded on Saturday evening.

According to details provided by the Nassau County Police Department, the distressing encounter occurred around 7:25 p.m. on Rockcrest Road. 

What was intended as a typical evening of trick-or-treating turned into a traumatic ordeal as a 6-year-old boy found himself facing the barrel of a black handgun allegedly pointed directly at his head by the suspect, Michael Wen.

Narrating the unsettling sequence of events, authorities outlined how the family, while attempting to visit a friend's house, inadvertently found themselves at the wrong address. 

The innocent gesture of leaving a goody bag of candy on the porch took a terrifying turn when the 6-year-old child went to retrieve the treats, only to be met with the menacing display from the homeowner.

Following his arrest, Wen was brought before the First District Court in Hempstead, New York, where he entered a plea of not guilty. Despite being released, he was instructed to return to court on November 13 for further legal proceedings. 

In an attempt to provide context to the incident, Wen's attorney, William Zou, spoke to various news outlets, highlighting a series of recent unsettling incidents that had allegedly occurred at Wen's residence, culminating in the unfortunate misunderstanding on Halloween night.

The Nassau County District Attorney's Office has ordered Wen to undergo a comprehensive mental health evaluation and enroll in anger management courses as part of the ongoing legal process, as the community grapples with the unsettling events and seeks resolution amidst a challenging situation.
