Heartbreaking Discovery: Father, Derek Johnson Describes How He Felt Finding His Wife and Children in Tragic Alabama Murder-Suicide

In a heart-wrenching incident, a father named Derek Johnson discovered a devastating tragedy when he found his wife and two young children dead in a murder-suicide in Alabama. The incident took place on Evergreen Court in Semmes, part of the Mobile metropolitan area.

Derek arrived at the residence after a cross-country journey mandated by a court order related to their ongoing divorce. Both parents were supposed to share a camper as a condition of their custody agreement when the children were with the other parent.

On the day he arrived, everything seemed somewhat normal given the circumstances. However, the next day, he sensed something was terribly wrong. The house was eerily silent, with all the blinds drawn, and only one light on in the master bedroom.

Derek felt an indescribable absence when he found his children, Mia, 6, and Jacob, 2, on the couch. They were lifeless and stiff. Their mother, Nancy Johnson, had taken her own life in the bathroom.

The tragic discovery left Derek in shock, and he immediately called 911. During an interview, he revealed that his family had recently moved to Alabama from Washington State due to the high cost of living there. Nancy had initiated the divorce process, but Derek was unsure of the reasons behind it.

A series of unusual police reports were filed by Nancy against Derek, even when he wasn't in the state. In June, Derek sought emergency custody due to his wife's deteriorating mental health. However, she manipulated him into canceling the divorce and the emergency order, eventually taking the children to Utah and refusing to disclose their whereabouts.

In August, Derek filed for divorce again, and he hadn't seen his children since late June until a court hearing on September 20. On September 17, he was arrested at the Semmes house for violating a protection order issued in Utah, where he briefly saw his children.

The tragic incident marked the end of a "nesting" agreement meant to last until their renewed divorce was finalized. Derek believes his wife's mental state worsened during the pandemic as she became absorbed in conspiracy theories and disturbing stories.

Unfortunately, she declined help because she feared being institutionalized.

Derek, devastated by the loss, emphasized that Nancy was a loving mother who had changed under the weight of her mental struggles.
