The parents of 22-year-old Mercedes Vega, a club dancer from Tempe, Arizona, who was tragically found dead in a burning car hours after leaving her apartment to meet friends at Dave & Buster’s in April, have opened up about the horrific ordeal their daughter endured in her final moments.
Tom Pillsbury and Erika Pillsbury recently shared their heartbreaking story in an interview with a local Arizona TV station, KTVK/KPHO. They also presented surveillance footage that depicted Mercedes casually looking at her phone as she entered her apartment parking garage on April 16, seemingly carefree as she prepared for a night out with friends.
In the early hours of April 17, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reported that they responded to a car fire on I-10 near Tonopah, extinguished the flames, and discovered Mercedes Vega's lifeless body in the back seat of the vehicle.
Shockingly, more than six months later, the Pillsburys disclosed that the autopsy findings indicate Mercedes Vega "suffered and was tortured," ultimately succumbing to smoke inhalation while enduring the fire.
The autopsy also revealed that Vega had bleach in her throat, blunt force trauma to the head, and a gunshot wound to the arm. Disturbingly, no arrests have been made in connection with this murder, leaving Vega's parents deeply troubled.
Tom Pillsbury expressed his anguish, saying, "To do what you would do to someone, you really have no soul." He went on to say, "It's eating us alive," reflecting on the absence of a suspect in custody and the lack of information regarding the progress of the investigation.
Erika Pillsbury emphasized that the evidence is clear that her daughter, who was "dressed to go to Dave & Buster’s" and seemingly unaware of the impending tragedy, had been "tortured." She shared her belief that someone had attempted to coerce or force her daughter into doing something she refused, asserting, "I know she died fighting."
