Homicidal Violence Claims the Life of Model Malessa Mooney in Downtown LA

New information about the tragic death of Malessa Marie Mooney has come to light. The autopsy report, conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner and obtained by PEOPLE, states that the cause of her death was "homicidal violence."

Malessa, aged 31, was discovered lifeless in her downtown Los Angeles apartment on September 12. The autopsy revealed that she had been beaten, bound, and placed inside her refrigerator.

The last time Malessa was seen on video surveillance in her apartment was on September 6. Law enforcement entered her residence on September 12 after her mother requested a welfare check.

The autopsy also showed signs of blunt force trauma to various parts of her body. Toxicology tests detected traces of cocaine and alcohol in her system. According to the autopsy report, the medical examiner noted that the blunt force traumatic injuries observed were not typically considered acutely life-threatening on their own. However, based on the circumstances of her discovery, it's likely that she was involved in a violent physical altercation before her death. Therefore, the role of drugs or alcohol in her demise remains uncertain.

No arrests have been made in the case, and the Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson could not provide any updates when contacted by PEOPLE.

Malessa's sister, Jourdin Pauline, revealed that Malessa was two months pregnant. She said, "She was super excited, and I know she really wanted a kid, and it's something that she has always talked about." She also mentioned that her late sister's boyfriend was devastated by the incident.

Pauline expressed that their family had limited information due to the ongoing investigation, and the situation was heartbreaking. When they arrived at Malessa's apartment after the welfare check, they found a scene that was chilling and traumatic. The apartment had been disturbed, with parts of the carpet ripped up, and the refrigerator missing. Pauline described the events of that night as very scary and traumatic, leaving her sister in a state of fear.

Interestingly, Malessa's body was discovered two days after another model in the downtown L.A. area was found dead in her apartment. Despite similarities in the two cases, the police have stated that they are not related.

On Tuesday, the autopsy report for Nichole Coats, aged 32, was released. She passed away on September 10 from "cocaine and ethanol toxicity," according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
