Illinois Woman, Emily Mora, Faces Multiple Charges for Allegedly Using Vehicle in Attack on Boyfriend
A woman from Illinois is facing a slew of charges after allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a vehicle while intoxicated and upset.
Emily Mora, 27, is accused of various charges, including aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery resulting in serious bodily harm, domestic battery resulting in bodily harm, domestic battery with physical contact, driving a vehicle without insurance resulting in bodily harm, and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, as per Lake County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
The incident took place on October 10 in Mundelein, a suburban area near Chicago. After a brief probable cause hearing on the same day, where she was assigned a public defender, Mora was released.
During the hearing, prosecutors described how Mora "gunned it," meaning she rapidly accelerated the vehicle, causing significant injuries to her boyfriend, according to a courtroom report by the Lake & McHenry County Scanner.
According to prosecutors, Mora and the victim had left a bar in Wheeling and were arguing as they drove through Mundelein.
At a Domino's parking lot, the boyfriend initially pulled over and got out of the car. Mora then allegedly took the wheel and briefly went their separate ways. However, witnesses claimed that Mora performed a U-turn and pursued her boyfriend, not to pick him up but seemingly to harm him.
As a result of the incident, the boyfriend sustained severe injuries to his face and hands. Mora claimed it was an accident, but witnesses stated that she was driving at a high speed when she struck him.
Mora was arrested by the Mundelein Police Department, who also determined that she was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Lake County Judge Ari Fisz released Mora on pretrial conditions because prosecutors did not request her detention until trial. Court records show previous traffic and misdemeanor cases involving a woman named Emily Mora.
Mora is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, with another court date set for October 26.
