This week, an Indiana woman found herself in police custody after they uncovered text messages that, they say, reveal a plot to harm her mother's husband.
Ashley Jones, a 29-year-old resident of Indiana, has been arrested on several charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and burglary. The allegations stem from her alleged involvement in a plot to harm her mother's husband, Harold Allen. Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer shared this information in a Facebook update.
On a Tuesday, Jones reportedly confessed that her mother, Marsha Allen, was responsible for placing ethylene glycol in Harold's drink back in December 2022.
Jones' arrest came after the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was called to Marsha's residence when her family couldn't reach her. Tragically, Marsha was discovered deceased on a Monday, with no obvious signs of violence, according to Sheriff Meyer.
As Meyer explained, the investigation commenced on September 19, following a break-in at Marsha's house. The department determined that two men, Steven White and Nathaniel Kane Napier, had burglarized the home with assistance from Marsha's daughter, Ashley Jones.
Upon seizing Marsha's phone, investigators discovered text messages between Jones and her mother discussing the use of poison to harm Marsha's husband in December 2022, as per authorities.
An obituary for Harold noted that he passed away suddenly at the age of 52 on December 20. A friend who mourned his passing mentioned that he often spoke fondly of Marsha.
Meyer stated that law enforcement officers served a search warrant at Marsha's home and collected additional electronic devices to gather evidence. During this process, they interviewed Marsha and subsequently released her, continuing their investigation.
Less than a month following the break-in and with Marsha found dead in her home, Jones reportedly confessed to ordering poison from the internet and claimed that her mother had placed it in Harold's drink.
Jones is currently listed on the inmate roster on the Jackson County Sheriff's website with the note "Bond Pending or No Bond Required."
The sheriff's office has not yet responded to requests for additional comments.
Sheriff Meyer emphasized on Facebook that Jones' arrest is part of an ongoing investigation.
