Life Sentences for Pennsylvania Man, Gregory G. Greene Jr, Who Confessed to The Murders of His Sister and Her Fiancé

A 33-year-old man from Pennsylvania will spend the rest of his life behind bars after admitting to the shooting deaths of his sister and her fiancé. He also critically injured his two young nieces by stabbing them in the neck. Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas Judge William T. Tully ordered Gregory G. Greene Jr. to serve two consecutive life sentences for the murders of Meredith Greene and Tyler Thames.

Greene pleaded guilty but mentally ill to two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, burglary, and other charges relating to the events that unfolded on the tragic night of February 9, 2022.

Mental health evaluations confirmed that he was mentally ill but not insane at the time of the crimes. Alongside the life sentences, Judge Tully also imposed an additional 21 1/2 to 45 years for lesser offenses, to be served consecutively.

The horrifying incident began when Harrisburg Police Department officers responded to a call on Liberty Street at approximately 6:45 a.m. They encountered Brittonie Meredith, covered in blood and frantically calling for help. Meredith had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to her face, and informed the officers that there were more victims at a nearby residence in Swatara Township.

First responders who entered the home discovered Meredith Greene and Tyler Thames, both unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics later pronounced them dead at the scene. Additionally, the couple's two young children, identified as "A.T." and "R.T.," were found in the house, both with apparent stab wounds.

Greene had stolen a running Dodge Charger around 5:45 a.m. and drove it to his sister's home. Despite a court order issued four days earlier that prevented him from entering the residence, he forcibly entered while his family was asleep.

He entered his sister Brittonie Meredith's bedroom and shot her in the face before proceeding down the hall to shoot Meredith Greene multiple times. Meredith managed to enter her mother's bedroom and close the door, ultimately saving her mother's life.

Greene then went upstairs and fatally shot Tyler Thames. He proceeded to the nieces' bedroom and attempted to shoot R.T., but he ran out of ammunition. He resorted to stabbing her in the neck and shoulder before throwing her down the stairs, where he also stabbed A.T. in the neck.

Law enforcement agencies pursued Greene as he fled the scene in the stolen Charger. The chase ended when he crashed into a school bus in Londonderry Township, leading to his arrest.

At the hospital, the two young girls confirmed that their uncle, Greene, had stabbed them and was seen inside the house holding a gun. Greene was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior conviction in 2010 for corruption of minors.
