Mysterious Camping Trip Tragedy: Woman, Ilknur Caliskan Accused of Murdering Her Husband During A Camping Trip Claims Memory Loss
A woman accused of murdering her husband during a camping trip claims she has no recollection of the alleged incident, according to reports. Ilknur Caliskan is facing charges in connection with the death of her husband, Serdar, with whom she shared 25 years of marriage.
The tragic incident occurred while the couple was on a camping trip with friends at Mount Disappointment in Australia.
Family lawyer Marcus Denning revealed that the alleged incident unfolded in front of three couples gathered around a campfire. The couple's adult children mentioned that their parents had recently returned from a joyful overseas trip to Turkey, and they characterized them as a very happy couple.
Denning emphasized that Ilknur is currently unable to comprehend the events of that fateful night and has no memory of any violence taking place. He described the situation as an unfortunate occurrence unfolding within the context of people sitting around a campfire.
Serdar and Ilknur Caliskan lived with their adult son and daughter in Craigieburn, Melbourne. Denning stressed that this case lacks any evidence of an intention to commit homicide, a motive, or prior instances of violence.
He termed it a tragic and unusual event.
Ilknur, aged 46, appeared in Shepparton Magistrates Court, where she sobbed while standing in the dock. She has been remanded in custody and is scheduled for a forensic psychiatric assessment later in the month.
Denning expressed hope that the assessment would shed light on her mental health status, benefiting the public, the family, and the legal proceedings.
The tragic incident unfolded in remote bushland near Clonbinane, north of Melbourne, and was reported to emergency services at 11:30 p.m. on a Saturday. Serdar, aged 50, was found with a stab wound and tragically passed away at the scene.
Ilknur was arrested on-site and subsequently charged with murder the following Sunday afternoon. Her case will return to court for a committal mention on December 19, 2023
