A nanny from East Bay, who was previously charged with creating and sharing child pornography, now faces even more serious accusations after evidence suggests she may have sexually abused an 8-month-old child under her care.
Michelle Nicole Hidalgo, a 28-year-old resident of Antioch, remains in custody following her arrest on September 23 on child pornography charges.
Hidalgo's arrest came after a tip from an undisclosed social media company to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip indicated that explicit images of an infant were being circulated on their platform.
Reportedly, Hidalgo had sent sexually explicit photos of the infant to an unidentified user on social media. She was working part-time as a caregiver for the child.
Hidalgo and the unknown user engaged in a disturbing conversation on the social media platform, during which Hidalgo offered to take more explicit photos of the 8-month-old baby. Shockingly, she also mentioned the intent to sexually abuse the child through oral sex, as per an affidavit.
Detectives were able to trace Hidalgo's location through her social media account's IP address. They went to her residence on East 13th Street in Antioch, where they confronted her with the evidence. Hidalgo admitted to taking sexually explicit photos of the victim and sharing them online.
Although Hidalgo initially denied sexually abusing the infant when questioned by detectives, they later found evidence of her actions in her iCloud account.
With these new charges, Hidalgo's bail has been significantly increased, from $700,000 to $2.7 million.
In another case, a federal grand jury indicted a Sacramento County man, Sam Moss Kerfoot, aged 27, from Carmichael, on three counts. He is accused of sexually exploiting a minor, distributing child pornography, and possessing child pornography. The charges allege that Kerfoot sexually abused a minor in April and May 2022 and created visual depictions of this abuse.
