New Jersey Man Charged with Terrorism for Crashing into Police Station While Blasting Music

A man from New Jersey is facing terrorism charges after intentionally crashing his vehicle into a police station while playing Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle," according to the district attorney’s office.

On September 20, John Hargreaves allegedly drove his gold Toyota SUV into the garage door of a residence in Liberty Township, New Jersey, with the apparent intention of intimidating or harassing the homeowner, whom he knew. Following this, he drove to the Independence Township Police Department, which was the closest police station to the damaged house.

The vehicle crashed into the police station's squad room, coming to a stop inside. Hargreaves exited the vehicle and seemed to celebrate as officers apprehended him at the scene while the car stereo played "Welcome to the Jungle," as stated by Warren County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer.

Security footage posted by the police department shows the moment of impact and Hargreaves' swift apprehension by officers. Although the song "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses is not distinctly audible in the audio, authorities mentioned that it was blaring from the car's stereo.

The police department's front entrance sustained significant damage and is temporarily closed for repairs. No injuries were reported in either the home or police station crashes.

Hargreaves faces charges including burglary, criminal mischief, possession of a weapon, and harassment related to the home crash. For the incident at the police station, he is charged with terrorism, causing widespread injury or damage, aggravated assault, burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal mischief. If convicted, Hargreaves could be sentenced to life in prison.

The Independence Township Police Department is currently closed for repairs and security upgrades but remains committed to serving the community to the best of its ability.
