Two teenagers, Jesus Ayala, 18, and Jzamir Keys, 16, are charged with deliberately hitting retired police chief Andreas Probst with their vehicle.
The court hearing revealed the teenagers' cold behavior, as they were seen laughing and covering their faces during the proceedings.
Probst's grieving family noticed this insensitivity and expressed their deep disappointment at the accused's lack of remorse.
What's even more troubling is that Ayala's public defender, David Westbrook, has made the situation worse with his behavior.
Westbrook's apparent indifference and support for the defendants have only increased the tension in the courtroom.
The situation got worse with the release of bodycam footage showing Ayala's dismissive attitude.
In the footage, he confidently talked about his upcoming release from custody.
He seemed not to care about the seriousness of the situation.
Afterward, a heated exchange began between the families.
Crystal Probst, Probst's widow, voiced her frustration over the release of the footage.
She pointed out how the defendants' families had contributed to the situation by trying to intimidate and provoke others during the court proceedings.
Taylor Probst, Andreas Probst's daughter, expressed her disappointment with the justice system and parenting that allowed such behavior to thrive.
She placed most of the blame on the defendants and their families' guardians.
Check out more details here on their behavior during their initial arrest.
