Five individuals have been charged with murder following a home invasion at a Las Vegas mansion worth $8.2 million, which tragically resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man months after the culprits broke into his home. Court documents reveal that during the invasion, the man was pistol-whipped, and his wife's head was submerged in a bathtub filled with water.
The suspects, identified as Lamonte Zyquise Butler (25), Howard Eugene Cavitt (28), Denzale Lee (28), Raven Samone Queen (28), and Antonio Darnell Washington (26), were already facing charges related to 11 home invasions that occurred from October to January, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
According to the indictment filed on October 12, on January 12, the suspects forcibly entered a home on the city's west side. While Queen remained outside, the other four individuals tied up Hong Shu Liu with duct tape and assaulted him with a pistol, demanding valuables. They also bound his wife with duct tape, took her to a bathtub, and submerged her head in water until she disclosed the whereabouts of valuable items and cash. The stolen items included a Hermès Birkin handbag, a Chanel bag, jewelry, and cash.
Tragically, Liu, who was born in China, passed away on September 17, with the cause of death determined by the Clark County Coroner's Office as "complications of multiple blunt force injuries." His wife survived the ordeal.
Queen attempted to sell the stolen handbags on Facebook, and Washington's DNA was found on the duct tape, as reported by CBS Las Vegas affiliate KLAS. At the time of the home invasion, all five individuals were staying at a Las Vegas Strip hotel.
In January, the police were investigating a series of burglaries in the area that had been ongoing since October. The suspects accessed the homes by using golf courses, desert areas, and walking paths.
During one of the break-ins on January 11, the suspects reportedly stole six Louis Vuitton bags, approximately $3,500 in cash, jewelry, and other items. The following day, Queen, Roberts, and two others entered a home in Henderson by breaking a window and shot the homeowner, a YouTube personality named Cordero Brady, known as CJ So Cool with nearly 9 million subscribers on YouTube. A gun battle ensued, and Brady sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspects were apprehended on January 24 and taken into custody. They have a court date scheduled for October 30, and their attorneys either declined to comment or could not be reached.
