Disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh will face sentencing on Tuesday for a decade worth of thefts from clients and his law firm.
Murdaugh, who is already serving a life sentence without parole for the murders of his wife and son, pleaded guilty to the financial crimes earlier this month. He will be sentenced to 27 years in prison, which will run concurrently with his murder sentence.
Murdaugh's legal troubles began in June 2021, when he was found guilty of killing his wife, Maggie, and younger son, Paul. He was sentenced to life without parole in August 2021.
In addition to the murder charges, Murdaugh was also facing a multitude of financial crimes charges. He was accused of stealing millions of dollars from his clients, his law firm, and his own family.
Murdaugh pleaded guilty to 27 financial crimes charges, including breach of trust, money laundering, and tax evasion. He admitted to stealing money from 18 different victims.
Murdaugh's sentencing will mark yet another step in the downfall of a once-respected attorney whose family name dominated the legal scene in Hampton County for generations.
