Chicago Suburb Horror: Officials Allege Man Attacked Estranged Wife, Then Shoved Chemical-Doused Rag into Mouth

In the suburbs of Chicago, a man finds himself behind bars after allegedly assaulting his estranged wife in a shocking incident.

Westmont police responded to a scene where a woman, armed with a knife, was discovered in a grassy area near a parking lot around 4:45 a.m. Saturday. An investigation unfolded, revealing that 35-year-old Marco Renegado Evidente had reportedly attacked his estranged wife as she walked to her car.

Allegedly, Renegado Evidente forcefully mounted her, shoving a rag soaked in chemicals into her mouth, slamming her head onto the pavement, and holding a knife to her throat during a struggle. Despite the harrowing encounter, the woman managed to divert the knife away from him.

Upon Renegado Evidente's apprehension, the woman, concerned for her three children he was supposed to be watching, sought information from officers. The crime scene yielded zip ties, a folding knife, a chemical-doused towel, and a three-inch blade. Subsequent exploration of his backpack uncovered three large garbage bags, a 20-pound dumbbell, and directions to the nearby Chatham Street Bridge over the Cal Sag Channel.

At the time of this incident, Renegado Evidente was already out on bond for an April 21 sexual assault charge, also involving his estranged wife.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin condemned the attack, stating, "It is alleged that Mr. Renegado Evidente armed himself with a knife, chemicals and zip ties, stalked his estranged wife and attacked her as she left for work early yesterday morning."

Renegado Evidente now faces charges of two counts of aggravated battery and misdemeanor counts of violation of an order of protection, domestic battery, attempted murder, and endangering the health or life of a child.
