Colorado Authorities Apprehend Suspected Shooter in Wake of Deadly Property Dispute, Leaving 3 Dead and 1 Injured

In connection to a deadly shooting in rural Colorado stemming from a suspected property dispute, a suspect, Hanme K. Clark, 45, of Westcliffe, Colorado, was apprehended near Albuquerque, New Mexico, by New Mexico State Police and U.S. Marshals, as announced by the Custer County Sheriff's Office. The arrest followed a 25-hour manhunt initiated on Monday, during which Clark peacefully surrendered. Notably, Clark's father contacted the sheriff's office offering assistance.

The arrest, described as a "high risk felony traffic stop" due to Clark being a suspect in three first-degree murders, occurred in the same white Ram 1500 pickup truck identified the previous day. The suspect's girlfriend, found in the vehicle during the arrest, is under investigation for her potential involvement.

The incident unfolded when deputies responded to reports of shots fired on Rocky Ridge Road at 12:59 p.m. on Monday. The Fremont County Sheriff’s SWAT team conducted a thorough search while residents were asked to shelter in place. The aftermath revealed four victims, with three deceased—Rob Geers, 63; Beth Wade Geers, 73; and James Daulton, 58. Patty Daulton, the surviving victim and wife of James Daulton, is recovering in critical condition at a trauma center.

The deceased and the suspect owned adjoining properties, according to the sheriff. Identifying the need for an extensive investigation before presenting the case to prosecutors, Sheriff Rich Smith commended his team's efforts and shifted focus during the press conference, emphasizing healing for the community and the victims' families. Clark is awaiting extradition back to Colorado, and the ongoing investigation continues.
