The partner of former NFL star Earl Thomas' ex-wife was apprehended for stealing his identity in an alleged scam worth $1.9 million. According to Nola.com, 38-year-old Kevin J. Thompson, from New Orleans, was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in June.
Thompson, who is in a relationship with Thomas' ex-wife, Nina Thomas, allegedly cashed Thomas' NFL checks, siphoned funds from his bank account, and transferred ownership of multiple vehicles.
He is facing a series of charges, including identity theft, forgery, money laundering, credit card fraud, computer fraud, and bank fraud.
Thomas, known for his successful NFL career as a seven-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, and a Super Bowl champion with the Seahawks' renowned "Legion of Boom" secondary, played professionally from 2010 to 2019.
Using a counterfeit driver's license featuring his own picture but Thomas' details, Thompson purportedly established a fraudulent bank account and transferred car titles, notably including one for a Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV, which he drove to the bank on the day of his arrest.
Allegedly, he transferred the ownership of several vehicles before selling them, although it remains unclear how he gained physical possession of these automobiles.
The Sheriff's Office stated that Thomas' credit union in Texas flagged suspicious activities at Jefferson Financial in June, revealing that the account opened at the New Orleans bank was not authorized by Thomas. Thompson faced a second arrest when he attempted to retrieve the Rolls-Royce on June 16 using a different vehicle reported as stolen.
Currently released on a $730,000 bond, Thompson's attorney declined to comment to Nola.com. Federal investigators are reportedly involved in the ongoing case as well.
Thomas and his former wife filed for divorce in 2020, following a Christmas Eve incident where both individuals displayed weapons during a parking lot altercation. The ex-NFL player was ordered to maintain a distance of 400 feet from Nina, who accused him of infidelity.
